I appreciate Akwetey Akrong and am so thankful and glad I am working with him on my mental health. He is observant of his patients and pays attention to every detail during sessions. He is incredibly educational and thoroughly expShow morelains everything that is going on during visits, which has made me understand my mind better and adapt my lifestyle to best support myself and my mental health. He breaks down complex concepts into very understandable language, and he does this in a way that is not condescending whatsoever, like I have experienced in the past with mental healthcare providers. This, I really appreciate. He conducts his sessions in a way where I do not feel rushed and I leave our appointments feeling confident in the information learned and things I can expect going forward. I have seen psychiatrists before who did not make me feel cared for or give me the time of day to understand everything that is going on, but he goes above and beyond to do so. Even down to the way his notification and appointment reminder system works, he is aware of and accommodating towards all people, including neurodivergent folks. He is excellent at communicating and invites patients to ask questions on the patient portal if anything comes up. I leave my visits feeling knowledgeable and comfortable asking any questions if they come up in the near future. Thanks and I greatly appreciate each visit with Akwetey Akrong!
I've was having a hard time looking for a psychiatrist I would be comfortable with talking to. When I found Mr. Akwrtey Akrong his reviews and about me really connected with me so I decided to go see him. The thing I appreciated mShow moreost was that he listened, like really fully understood what I was saying. He was very perceptive to even know about some things in my life that I didn't even bring up. It felt like I was talking to a friend who cared about me. I'm glad I went to see him and plan on referring anyone I know who needs his expertise.
Akwetey Akrong, PMHNP-BC, is a board-certified adult psychiatric and mental health nurse practitioner at Reverence Behavioral Health Services in Oak Brook, Illinois. After earning his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Illinois, Mr. Akrong completed his Master of Science in Nursing at Walden University in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Mr. Akrong works with adolescents and adults struggling with mental health conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety, and psychotic disorders, to name a few.
A Marine Corps veteran, Mr. Akrong gained a lot of experience evaluating and treating a wide range of mental health disorders while working with veterans at an inpatient facility. He’s also a minister and has extensive experience in family counseling.

I’ve had a few different psychiatrists and I’ve never had one sit down and truly listen to me and my experiences before. Dr Akrong really takes his time to understand me AND my medical needs!
Over the last 3 years I've managed to turn my life around largely because of Dr. Akrong. I went into my sessions with great apprehension for fear of being prescribed anti-depressants right out of the gate. Akwetey understood that, took a step back, listened to my story, and helped me realize and cope with my underlying issues of ADHD. I've managed to finish my undergrad, get married, and have my first child thanks to the last three years of therapy. I don't think a 5-star review is enough thanks, but it's the best I can do.
He changed my life; I'm not sure where I would be without seeking his help.
Mr. Akwetey “Doc” Akrong has help me extremely. He has talked me through some very difficult times he’s very understanding considerate confident knowing and designing a routine just for me he’s not quick to medicate he gradually gets you to a place of stability…he has shown me different ways of coping and self care to be able to get through I trust and respect “Doc” he’s amazing at what he do.

Had my first appointment with Akwetey Akrong. It was a great first appointment. I felt that he heard me out and was listening to everything I had to say.
