I went for what most people consider to be a rough appointment and it turned out to be the absolute best experience Ive ever had. This place is what amazing patient care looks like! I was first greeted with Laura, the MA, with notShow morehing but kindness and smiles. Then I met Dr. Mary right then and there! There was no wait. Dr. Mary and her team are exceptional. They treat you like a real person! I felt confident, informed, and listened to. That’s right, a doctor that hears you. And she spent TIME with me! Not some 10min appt where most doctors are rushing to get out of the room. The facility is a converted RV and let me tell you it is cute, comfortable, and classy. They got all the equipment and even a bedside ultrasound! I’m so impressed!
Dr. Mary is kind and actually listens when I describe my symptoms. I’ve been told in the past it’s all in my head, some women have a harder time with pain and that it’s perfectly normal to pass out, feel nauseous dizzy and extremeShow morely tired when golf ball sized clots come out of me. It’s not normal and it’s not in my head. Ever since switching to Dr. Mary I feel like there is hope for me to live a life not in agony for 10 days out of every month. I got an IUD yesterday and immediately cried when she finished because of past trauma. She was so kind and supportive while she listened to my experience and let me cry. For 27 years I have been dealing with this and finally have hope of finding relief.

Dr. Mary is a graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine Ob/Gyn Residency with a Masters in Health Communication from Tufts/Emerson.
Dr. Mary moved to Portland in 2010 and was a partner at Gresham Women’s Healthcare, PC. She is a highly trained robotic and laparoscopic surgeon and cared extensively for high-risk pregnant populations. She is also an author, with her memoir being published by Simon and Schuster.
Dr. Mary is now embarking on a journey to bring healthcare and reproductive justice directly into the neighborhoods and communities that need it most.

Dr. Mary Howard and her team are excellent! Her mobile clinic is just as warm and inviting as her personality. She listens with intent to understand and makes me feel like a partner in my care. I’ve also had the opportunity to work alongside her in the hospital setting. She works extremely well under pressure, all the while ensuring her patients are safe and cared for. Dr Mary is AMAZING! Her mobile clinic is so welcoming and her staff is amazing. It was so nice to feel like there wasn’t a 20 minute time limit on your appointment to get to the next patient down the hall. Love being able to call and talk to someone that is in direct contact with her immediately, rather than sending messages and leaving voicemails that don’t get returned. I was a little nervous about my first appointment, but I am SO glad I went! I will definitely be back and will recommend her to anyone looking for a new gyno.
My experience with Dr. Mary and her team was exceptional. As a Healthcare provider myself I often hear how "doctors don't listen," that couldn't be further from the truth at Fem Forward. I was given ample time to tell my story during my appointment, and was met with compassion and understanding from the whole team. The environment was welcoming and disarming, I felt like I was talking with family. Dr. Mary heard my concerns and went above and beyond to explain her medical diagnosis and treatment recommendations in a way that helped me to feel educated, heard, and safe. Dr. Mary was absolutely wonderful. Meeting her for the first time I was extremely nervous especially being a mobile clinic but walking in there I was so relieved. Dr Mary and her staff (I'm sorry I forgot her name) they both were so nice and warming. Made my visit extremely comfortable. Definitely recommend going to see Dr Mary Afsari-Howard.

Cannot recommended Dr. Howard enough. Best doctor I’ve ever had and her mobile clinic is inviting/comfortable. She is caring, personable and down to earth. She’s great at explaining things and educating in a way you can easily understand. Terra and Laura are wonderful and welcoming.
Love the cozy feeling of the mobile clinic. It was so easy to get an appointment. Everyone was very understanding and nice. The doctor made me feel very comfortable and heard.
So far the best experiences I have had after seeing an OB/GYN. Everyone was so welcome and made me feel at easy right away. I felt so comfortable talking to Dr. Mary and the other staff. I like the cozy setting and would recommend it to anyone who feels they haven’t been heard yet.

Dr. Mary and the team are amazing. The atmosphere they've created is so welcoming! As someone who struggles with chronic pain - going to the doctor is rarely a positive experience. Every time I have seen Dr. Mary I have felt heard and like she honors my experience with my body and is there to help. She explains things so well and the rest of the team are so helpful and accomodating with scheduling, insurance, follow up questions, etc. If you're on the fence, I definitely recommend Dr. Mary!
I had an amazing experience. Dr. Mary is so personable and you can tell that she truly cares about you as a whole person and not just ob/gyn related. Her and Laura, her medical assistant, were also very professional and made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked in.
